All net proceeds from Knowing Pains will be donated to Breast Cancer Action, a breast cancer non-profit organization. Virtually all of us now have friends, colleagues, sisters and mothers who have battled breast cancer. The American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer incidence in women has increased from one in 20 in 1960 to one in eight today. Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately the survival statistics have improved significantly. Today a woman diagnosed with breast cancer has an 89% chance of surviving at least five years, compared with 75% twenty years ago. Access to care, ongoing research and continuing education are the keys to continue this effort for our generation and for the generations of women to come.
